I want to first start by saying "thank you" to everyone at Paul Mitchell Ohio. Rachelle King, Jeannie Gullia, Joe Mamone, Kristen, and everyone in the office. As you know, I was a Learning Leader with Paul Mitchell The School, and an Educator for Paul Mitchell Ohio. My career as an Educator, led me to another product company as the Academy Director. They treated me well, and I climbed the corporate ladder very fast. In April of 2008, I opened Peter Alfred Salon, and carried only that one product line. In late 2009, we started using Paul Mitchell The Color, and it was the best move I ever made. It made me realize how important Brand Recognition is in this industry. We then started carrying the Paul Mitchell retail line, and it is selling like crazy. As of this April 2010, we will become a Paul Mitchell Focus Salon. We plan on a long relationship with Paul Mitchell, and Paul Mitchell Ohio. Peter Alfred Salon is selling more product than ever, thanks to Paul Mitchell! Established in 1985, as Designer Depot Styling, I moved to 518 Coshocton Avenue in 1990. In 1998, took time off of salon ownership to start a family, rented out the building and worked one day a week in other salons. Now in 2009, the opportunity to reopen became available and my endearing love for the hair and color industry will once again be shared with the community.
I am a one designer/owner salon by choice. I offer flexible hours by appointment, I do not advertise in the yellow pages but have a Web Site and Facebook page. I build my guest base by referrals and reward my referring guests for them. I also recognize my guests’ birthdays by sending Birthday cards for their special occasion that includes a special offer.
I have 3 chairs, one at each location in the salon ~ Color Bar, Texture Station and Styling Station which totals about 800 square feet. I am PROUD to be a Paul Mitchell Focus Salon and have used and recommended Paul Mitchell Products in my salon since 1985!
I am so proud to be associated with Paul Mitchell and all the good that they do for the world in addition to great products. I look forward to moving into the future with an outstanding company.

On Monday September 26, 2009 Alia Barr visited my salon in Bridgeport WV for a Paul Mitchell class on Block Color. I have been in the industry for over 30 years and I work with watercolors and acrylic paints so I have a good understanding of the color wheel. I have seen the color wheel explained many times. But I have never seen it explained quite so simply. I witnessed two stylists that were in the class have AHA MOMENTS. Alia was very interesting and I didn't want the class to end.
As she was packing up to leave she made some suggestions on my very limited retail space. She started moving furniture and before I knew it the stylists got up and jumped in. We were motivated to stay at the salon until 11:00 pm, grouped three shelves together in one corner, added lighting, and an area rug. You can imagine the positive comments our guests have made. I am sure that this will increase sales. My hat is off to Alia for a job well done!

I'm writing to say Thank You once again for being instrumental in making the Gathering possible. After the fact (being so energized ourselves), It's always nice to hear how excited our girls are to try new techniques and ideas they learned. The ride home was a great opportunity for all of us to share our thoughts and ideas. Now we can be right back to work with a newer, more focused motivation. The roundtable was great. We thank you and the others at JPMS that continue to provide the support and tools to help us build and improve our business.

"I am writing this as a testament as to how my business has benefitted from the switch to Paul Mitchell
I have been in the beauty business for 27 years. For most of the years I used Matrix. I was trained at a class in the early days of my career and I always felt very comfortable with Matrix. I was ALWAYS disappointed in the way that all of my browns had an orange glow to them. The blondes never seemed to be what the swatch revealed. Most of all the condition of the hair was always dry. The one good thing was we could always get grey coverage so I kept on using it.
When I opened my own salon I started with Matrix and all of the products that you would retail. I had a hodge podge of items. That in itself was overwhelming. The worst part for me using the Matrix line was I could not get a rep to come to me. I had to go to barnums and buy all of my own products. I called the head quarters on numerous times and they would say findlay's rep is too busy to come to my salon. I did not open a mom and pop salon, I have the largest salon in this town. I was very disappointed. The amount of work this put upon me was overwhelming. I would go to our Barnum store in town and spend a few thousand dollars and load my car and then unload my car. This was was my biggest headache as a salon owner.
Denny and Judith walked into my salon in May of 2006. I sat down with them and they told me all they could do for my business and they promised me that our salon would be one of the best in the state. I put them on hold for a few months due to having 3 pregnant young stylists who I knew would benefit the most from the training. When we put both feet in we were instantly putting ourselves in another class of the industry. Denny swapped all of my color out, Judith came in numerous times to train us and we were on our way to a new adventure.
Within 6 months of making the color switch my clients and myself were completely satisfied with the conditon of the hair and all of the beautiful colors that we were able to achieve. My browns no longer glow, we have beautiful blondes, and the hair is has never looked and felt better. Our retail is out of this world. We have beautiful retail displays and our salon is full Focus.
All of this happened very quickly, our sales skyrocketed. I had no idea that Paul Mitchell was any more than just hair color and shampoo. When I attended the Winter gathering in Jan 2008 I learned that I was backed by one of the greatest companies in the world. I feel like I am part of a bigger plan than just a hair salon.
I will never get over John Paul and all he had to say and the quote that I remember the most is "Never Forget where you came from " He is amazing. A few months later I was honored to attend the Focus salon meeting in Orlando and sit under the greatest speakers, Robert Cromeans and many others. All of this has been a life changing experience for me and my staff. To date I have 15 stylists, we are very proud of where we are. We are remaining positive with the economy crunch and understand that only the strong will survive and we will survive.
