Program Benefits | PM Focus Salons | Letter from Connie

A message from me! (Also see Connie's Blog!)

The most important message to Salon Owners this year is this:
KNOW THE FOOT TRAFFIC COUNT THAT GOES THROUGH YOUR SALON PER WEEK!

It may sound like a silly thing to know compared to new Hair Coloring Techniques that will make you a lot of money, controlling an advertising budget, keeping chairs full and making sure your staff gets Advanced Education and stays motivated……but it’s REALLY important! Along with that you should know the traffic count that drives by your salon every day! You need to know your exposure in the community and take full advantage of it!

Your foot traffic count will tell you the inventory levels you need to carry in order for you to be your neighborhood’s Hair Care Supplier! If you have four stylists doing 10 people a day that’s 40 people a day, 200 people a week, 800 a month and 10,400 people a year spending time in your business! Wow!

Now, let’s start talking about selling all 10,400 clients something! They are there because they trust you with their appearance! That’s a lot of TRUST! That’s BIG!  If they trust you with how they present themselves to the world they will for sure trust your recommendations on what they should be using. Just make sure they buy it from you and you make the 50% margin, not the grocery or drug store. Make sure you have enough inventory and back stock to cover your salon’s weekly foot traffic needs.

As I look back over my 43 year career in the Professional Hair Care Industry not much has changed. Haircutters and Hairdressers will always be needed; no machine will ever take their place and that is the good news! Some of the less than good news is still the same, cash flow shortages, spreading precious dollars among too many distributors, salespeople dropping in and squandering your time, employees telling you how to run your business, not knowing how to control inventory and the age old artist thing of bad business practices!

Rome wasn’t built in a day! Becoming aware is a great first step. Taking on one challenge at a time is responsible but the most powerful thing I believe you can do is give yourself permission to make money, be happy and successful! Take great pride in the fact that you took the risk of starting your own business, that you have created jobs for people and provide a great service in your community. After you take these simple but necessary steps you will be more prepared mentally and emotionally to write your business plan, run your business in harmony with the vision you had when you started it.

Thank you all so much for being our clients and your belief in John Paul Mitchell Systems and Paul Mitchell Ohio.
